In the 7th year of Yongzheng (1729), the ancestor marched west from Pingyao, Shanxi with General Yue Zhongqi to suppress the Dzungar rebellion; after pacification he stayed garrisoned at Barkol (present-day Balikun) and rose to the 4th-rank official, settling there for fifteen generations to this day. The "Wang Family Sanhuai Hall Old Residence" (Wang Family Courtyard on Yushu Lane), where they lived, has stood for over 200 years and was designated a county-level cultural relic protection unit by the Balikun Kazakh Autonomous County government in 2002, a tangible witness to Sanhuai Hall culture preserved in the Western Regions.
